Robert was raised in Orem, Utah, and graduated from Mountain View High School. After serving a 2-year Spanish speaking mission in Puerto Rico, he returned to Utah to pursue a degree in nursing at Brigham Young University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing in December 1993. Upon graduation, Robert became a commissioned officer in the Nurse Corps of the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he worked in several areas as a staff and charge nurse, including Maternal-Child, General Surgery, Labor & Delivery, and Nursery in San Diego, California, and Yokosuka, Japan.
In February 2008, he was promoted to Division Officer of the OB/GYN clinic in Yokosuka, Japan, serving in that capacity until he left active duty naval service with an honorable discharge as a Lieutenant to go to graduate school in May 1999 at the University of Utah. Robert concurrently enrolled in the Nurse Midwifery and Family Nurse Practitioner programs in August 1999. He obtained a Master’s of Science in Nursing in December 2001 upon the successful completion of the Nurse Midwifery program.
In May 2002, he completed the Family Nurse Practitioner program with a post-master’s certificate, finishing his Family Practice Residency at the Veteran’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, from January 2002 to April 2002. He is board certified as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) and a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP). While working in various capacities as a CNM and FNP, Robert decided to open a clinic to provide low-cost general medical services for the medically uninsured. He opened Seraphine Clinic, LLC, on February 24, 2003, as a solo practitioner, later adding additional medical providers to the staff. In 2006, he also opened Seraphine Med Taylorsville, LLC, to provide general medical services for people with medical insurance. He continues to serve as a medical provider in and manager of both clinics. Robert is fluent in Spanish and loves people. Hobbies include hiking, reading, movies, fishing, and traveling. He married Sonya Garcia in 1991. They are the proud parents of 5 wonderful children: Adrianne, Andrea, Taleb, Malachi, and Seraphine.
